Message from your host, Steven S.: Were going to the Allegheny County Elections Division in downtown Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, to present Division Manager Mark Wolosik with our petition and signatures weve gathered so far. More than 2,100 people have spoken - signing a petition asking Wolosik not to enforce the new voter ID law. Otherwise, up to 758,000 registered Pennsylvanians may be prevented from voting this November. We dont believe the excuse that this law was written to prevent voter fraud. Even the state couldnt provide a single instance of in-person voter fraud when this law was challenged in Commonwealth Court. We do believe State Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) when he told the Republican State Committee on June 23, 2012, that Pennsylvania's new voter ID law would "allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania." He as much as admitted it will turn away eligible voters mostly the poor, elderly and women who traditionally vote Democratic.
We realize it is a difficult thing were asking Wolosik to do. If the voter ID law isnt overturned in our courts, not enforcing it would be breaking the law. However, enforcing it would be to break another law - the U.S. Constitution.
So please come join us to peaceably present our petition and share stories to Mr. Wolosik and the media about how this new voter ID law will disenfranchise either ourselves, our friends, family and/or neighbors. The entire event should take less than an hour.
NOTE: Weve put the time as 1 p.m., but that may change. Check your email for finalization.
