2004 Elections: Help Ensure a Fair and Clean Election

Help Ensure a Fair and Clean Election

Get out and vote, vote early, and don't forget your ID. Whatever type of voting machines are being used, there's no excuse for not getting out and casting your ballot. If your state allows early voting, take advantage of it. If you have any problems at the polling place, you should call the Election Protection hotline at (866) OUR-VOTE. Election Protection is a nationwide program to safeguard your right to cast a ballot on Election Day. Election officials need to keep testing electronic voting machines from now until Election Day, especially in counties where the election will be close. Election officials should also make all decisions involving voting machines open to the public. Read the Joint Statement by 20 civic groups.

Protect Our Votes

In the last presidential election, more than four million voters were unable to vote due to bad voting machines, inadequate training for poll workers and voter intimidation and suppression. Know Your Rights: You Have the Right to Vote! Make sure that you’re not denied the right to vote on November 2nd. Election Protection is a non-partisan group of organizations working to make sure that every eligible voter can cast their vote on election day. Help Your Employer Help You Vote

Millions of registered voters couldn't get to the polls in 2000 because their employers wouldn't give them the time off that they needed. In many states, companies that don't give their employees the chance to vote are breaking the law. Take a few minutes today to ask about your employer's Election Day leave policy. If they don't have one, ask them to create one. Even if you don't need Election Day leave, you can speak up for your co-workers who do.
